Well, this was an interesting game. I have shot in snow before as well as rain, but this was like nothing I have ever seen before. The field was covered the entire game despite the tractors trying to clear it, there were times where the game would just stop because someone would miss a pass and the ball would get lost (even after they switched to an orange ball, which I think they should use in men’s lacrosse anyways!) At one point I turned around to the crowd and there were some kids making a row of snowmen on the bleachers, coaches, players, and some fans would run around with snow shovels trying to keep the boundary lines and creases clear. It was crazy. If it wasn’t for the fact that I left absolutely soaked, I wish it would snow more often. It added interesting detail and lighting.

This is a little bit longer post then I typically do…. I couldn’t help it, the game had lots of ups and downs and therefore there were lots of pictures…. there probably were more downs in the long run since BYU ended up losing 13-9. Sigh.

BYU came out super strong, actually they went up on Michigan 3-0 by the end of the first quarter. Then Michigan went on a 5-0 run in the second quarter. Yikes. I am not sure where the intensity went that I saw in the first quarter but it just kinda disappeared. You can’t let a team like Michigan go up on you by that much, they are too good, as has been proven by the fact they have not lost a game in two years and are back to back national champions. There have been some good and bad things the last few weeks, I think a lot of it will be just putting together a complete game which just has not happened yet.

This is one of my favorite shots of the evening, actually possibly even of this season so far.

BYU v UVU

March 2, 2010

First game home in the white uniforms, hooray! They look awesome thanks to prolook (who actually also did UVU’s uniforms), oh and cascade makes really cool helmets in case you were wondering, BYU’s look pretty sharp. There was an awesome turnout for this game, the weather was not super chilly, and I discovered that the lighting on this field is nowhere near as terrible as I thought. This was the first night game that I actually really enjoyed and didn’t leave super frustrated. I need to credit Craig Small for giving me a hand, he helped with giving some super awesome advice on sports photography at night and I will be forever grateful! Take a look at his work here, he does such an awesome job.

UVU has a good team this year, which is exciting because that means lacrosse is continually growing and the skill level is getting better in the west. They should have a good season and I am planning on making it to a few of their games in April so watch for more pictures of them! Great game by them, the officiating was pretty so so in my book there were some calls that I really disagreed with, or that they just flat out didn’t call. But in sports unfortunately you can’t control what the officials do, and as I have found (personal experience, I was a talker to officials…oops), typically the more you push them…. the worse it gets.

Check out this entire gallery here it is organized by the BYU player’s number with coaches and team shots at the end and then all the UVU pictures are at the end (since U is like one of the last letter’s in the alphabet….) Hopefully that makes sense….

Helmets and gloves for this year! Pretty dang nice looking.
